Poem: God Finds You

God Finds You

When I saw you,
the heavens had a face,
yet, you explained to me that stars,
are sometimes in the wrong place.

When we met in blackness of deep,
combing through underwater canyons steep,
you told me that you were shallow.

And that time in the field,
the abundant harvest,
was invisible to you,
through all that felt fallow.

Light danced on the surface
of your skin,
but adoration
made it hide within.

And I’ll say “tell me more about misplaced stars,
ankle deep water,
and the fallow fields where you planted those seeds.”
You are cordially invited to hide for as long as you can.

You only see these things
because Love
brings up
anything unlike itself.

Love is the conjurer of darkness
calling that which is not loved
into the light,
and the spell casts eternal.

If you hurt, for any reason,
it is because Love
is not done with you yet,
and if you can talk about it,
you are speaking words
of impending
freedom.

Someday,
you will feel in your bones how every star is in alignment
how the water is warm and deep all day long
how the fields are full.
Hiding will have no appeal
when you marvel
at how God finds you
everywhere.

  1. Yes!
I would write more but I have ten pounds of pup sitting on my chest demanding immediate kisses.

  2. Beautiful. “amazing grace.”

    The Koran comes to mind:

50:12 We created man. We know the promptings of his soul, and are closer to him than the vein of his neck.
