I can’t help my lineage and sometimes yes,…it does come out sounding all Christian like…well, just roll with it.

When God says “Be a light unto the world” a stopping point isn’t mentioned.

It doesn’t say,

“be a light unto the world until…(insert reason for stopping here).”

It also doesn’t say when you are meant to start, as in

“start being  a light unto the world as soon as…(insert good reason and time to begin here).”

I am not a Bible man myself.  Never read it once.  But I hear quotes from it settling into my heart all the time, unbidden, unasked for.  It is just part of the deal for me.  Just like Sanskrit words and names of things come unbidden all the time.  It isn’t Christian, it isn’t Sanskrit…it is just how Truth reaches me through different filters of experience that I can relate to.

I love the path of being a mystic.  There isn’t a better word for what I experience, in my opinion.  Do you love being a mystic?  Do you like how God asks you to be a light unto the world  in mysterious ways?  And yes, for those of you cringing because you don’t have a positive association with the word “God”…how about this…do you like how the universe asks you to live your truth in mysterious ways?  Because I’m just a white guy from America with no particular special reason to be experiencing this, but I am.  I mainly see that the only reason more people are  not experiencing this…isn’t because they aren’t experiencing it…but because they won’t let themselves live what it is that they feel called to do in order to live their truth.  I just ended up choiceless about it.

So, I figure, everyone is tasked with facing a hard truth.  You ARE a light unto the world.  It already started.  You are already alight.  You can be a light that goes dark.  But you are still a LIGHT that is darkened.  The essence is still light.   Light is always there.  You are literally a light unto the world.  No one bothered to ask you about it, you just got to be one because it is your true nature.

Be a light unto the world….an aspect I love about this in particular is the way that it doesn’t mean just being a light for others.  Nope…sorry.  Those days are sort of behind us…the ones where people follow the light in another while not seeing their own light.  That comfy pattern is all worn out.  I emphasize this because so many feel that it must mean that one person in particular is meant to be THE light unto the world.  I know a lot of spiritual teachers who think this way about themselves.   They often don’t see that their “students” are already lights unto the world, and just as bright as the supposed teacher. I feel that modality is like a wheel made of stone…we can do better.  A world of people considering the fact that we are all LIGHTS unto the world.  Hmmm…who exactly would be brighter?  No one?  Sounds good.  Everyone knowing that they are a light unto themselves and a light for others?  If everyone is doing that, then we would all be listening to one another.  Sounds like a place I’d like to live.  That is a lot of light in one little place…which is probably what we’ll need to recover from a couple of thousand of years worth of not realizing it all along.

Be a light unto the world, unto yourself, unto those around you AND ask others to do the same.
